GB Oils Victimisation

There is a real anger gathering pace right around the UK following the underhanded way in which one of your senior stewards was sacked from his job this week. Many of you are asking what the union is going to do about it? All of you that are members are the union, you are it's strength and it's up to you to stand together on issues such as this that you feel strongly about. Many members are saying that the union should ballot the workforce in support of our steward and I would agree. You all know that he was targeted because he was a steward and was suspected of running this blog. How wrong can they be!! A few hundred miles wrong actually. I think also, you can all work out who instigated this and of course who carried it out. Watch your backs everyone, if you don't stand up to things like this, you could be next.

I think it's disgraceful the way GB Oils treats it's staff and drivers. "We want to become an employer of choice." Isn't that part of their mission statement? Given a choice and a better jobs market I don't think many would choose to stay the way things are right now. The management really don't seem to do themselves any favours.

It's no good saying we should do something, NOW is the time to do it. Winter is approaching & we will not have a better opportunity to make our point.
The way they have treated the shop steward is diabolical & we all should be doing something about it NOW, like the last comment actions speak louder than words.

I'm a shop steward reading this and yes you will get your legal ballot very soon. If you're frustrated by the delay please write to Margaret Thatcher as she is the one who put all the obstacles in our way. We will climb over the obstacles and you will have the opportunity to strike if you wish. If you do so without the legal stuff being satisfied the company can and almost certainly will sack you.

We are not all members of the union however we can join forces by making small ripples which leads to big waves to show our support for this man in Inverness. Let us all join together and go a wee bit slower and take just a little bit longer in selling and pushing out the goods.
    Good luck Uisdean

I'm sorry if you feel I wasn't helpful. Although I can't seem to see why. I'm also sorry you think I'm in this for myself. I currently spend around 15 hours a week on behalf of people like you. It's unpaid and very thankless as you have so kindly demonstrated but nevertheless and undeterred I carry on in support of you. As I write this I am helping 2 people to try and save their jobs locally, dealing with several grievances within my region and countless national issues that hopefully will bear fruit for you.

Well said that steward. That comment came from a known trouble maker, that's obvious so take no notice of it. I thought you gave good advice and I think the stewards are doing a great job considering the company they are dealing with.

I agree. Not many people would give up their own time and still put up with abuse like that. I think the idiot that made the comments "thanks i will write to maggie thatcher" should be be ashamed. Keep up the good work

Our steward based in the midlands is worth his weight in gold. He saved mine and my mates jobs and if it wasn't for him we'd be facing the dole now. We should all remember that it was stewards like him that fought long and hard over the last few generations for the terms and conditions we all enjoy today. Support them!!!!!

Also I didn't mention the wage rise, you did, and for your information in my capacity as a senior steward I have worked with Uisdean for many years and also consider him to be a good personal friend and I'm probably more angry and upset at how he has been treated than most others.

The actions of this company towards Uisdean is only the tip of the iceberg. We as as a work force are going through proposed changes that you would not or in fact dream of . In the eyes of this company you as drivers and your Ts and Cs are the enemy. You at the moment have the right to a job, pay, holidays and in some cases sick pay . the plan of G.B OILS PLC is in fact to abolish said conditions that you as a marketable workforce are AT THE MOMENT!are indeed entitled to, if you or are not part of a trade union . Th e work force of G.B Oils are ALL in the same boat . Us clerical staff are subjected to the same bullying tactics as all other parts of this company

Uisdean Menzies has done for all driver (friend and foe) more good than any one in this WHOLE UNION than you will ever be aWare of and that is why he has become a target of the management in my opinion of SCOTLAND .

I feel its time I joined this debate, as I have been following your blog for a while. Firstly let me say that I feel for the driver who lost his job in Inverness
and I have no idea if this is or has been a witch hunt against the union.
All staff at Gb Oils are treated with the same contempt, you drivers are in a better position to be represented by a union.
Office workers throughout the UK are in constant fear of sackings, redundancies or depot closures. If you all walk out the door you would cause major disruption
as the company could not bring in skilled agency workers to carry out your duties, the company can still take orders but wont be able to fullfill their obligations to the end customers.
Again I could say the if you did decide to strike, that GB Oils like "Maggie Thatcher", would attempt to starve you into submission with christmas approaching. I wish you all the best with your fight and hope you get a fair pay deal and retain your contracts and conditions. If your not happy then "VOTE WITH YOUR FEET MEN".

i have not been reading the blog for some time but i can tell anyone who is interested that Ron Webb travlled to scotland to represent uisdean and ripped the back out of the so called managers and the put up offence they got uisdean on. this is only the tip of the iceberg. all over this company the lick my arses are out to shaft as many drivers as they can.vote for action and let them know that you are on to their game.
